Jerry Kingio arriva a Templeton alla ricerca dell’assassino di suo fratello Regan. Di lui non conosce la fisionomia, sa che ha un nome che potrebbe non essere vero: Jack Collin che fa un certo giochetto con l’orologio e che spara bene passando la pistola dietro la schiena. A Templeton scopre l’esistenza di una banda di malviventi comandata da due capi, uno dei quali è certamente quello che egli cerca. Dopo parecchie traversie ed avventure, Rod, uno dei capi, si scopre a Jerry offrendogli di fare il gioco dell’orologio. Al momento della lotta finale, mentre Rod sta rivelando a Jerry chi sia l’assassino, viene ucciso da Gringo, il vero capo che manovrava tutta la banda e che aveva ucciso Regan. Nel duello con Jerry, Gringo ha la peggio e quindi, sgominata la banda, il paese ritorna ad una serena tranquillità.
