Nathan (Taylor Lautner) is een typische Amerikaanse tiener, jong en onbezonnen. Samen met zijn vrienden mag hij graag helemaal uit zijn bol gaan, iets waar zijn ouders niet echt blij mee zijn. Nathan zit in een opstandige fase en om die reden zit hij in therapie bij psychiater Dr. Bennett (Sigourney Weaver). Daar vertelt hij hoe hij zich soms een vreemde in zijn eigen huis voelt, een gevoel waar hij geen enkele logische verklaring voor kan vinden. Dat verandert als hij samen met zijn overbuurmeisje Karen voor school een project moet maken over vermiste kinderen. Op een site waarop foto's van vermiste kinderen aangepast kunnen worden hoe ze er nu uit zouden zien, staart Nathan ineens naar zijn eigen gezicht. Als hij via de site navraag doet naar dit vermiste jongetje veroorzaakt dat een kettingreactie bij zowel de CIA als bij topcrimineel Nicola Koslow (Michael Nyqvist). Nathan ontdekt dat hij de zoon is van een belangrijke black ops CIA-agent die gevoelige informatie in zijn bezit heeft. Die informatie heeft hij gestolen van Koslow en die zet alles op alles om via Nathan druk uit te kunnen oefenen om zijn bezit terug te krijgen. Beide technisch goed uitgeruste partijen beginnen een klopjacht op Nathan die samen met Karen op de vlucht slaat en geen flauw idee heeft waarin hij terecht is gekomen en wie hij kan vertrouwen.
Lautner brak door als Jacob in de Twilight-Saga en sindsdien zijn hij en Robert Pattinson verantwoordelijk voor een wereldwijde tweedeling onder tienermeisjes. Kamp Jacob zal heel blij zijn met Abduction en niet alleen zij, want dit is een van de films waar we deze maand echt blij van worden. Goede actie-thrillers zijn zeldzaam en moeten worden gekoesterd. Naast
Lautner zien we een keur aan bekende namen, waaronder Sigourney Weaver, Michael Nyqvist uit de Millennium-trilogy als de bad guy en Alfred Molina als de CIA-agent die zo zijn eigen redenen heeft om fanatiek op Nathan te jagen. Voor de echte filmkenners is het aan het eind van de film nog even leuk om te kijken wie als eerste de grote onbekende herkent, eerst alleen aan zijn stem, daarna wat duidelijker aan een deel van zijn gezicht en als laatste als vage gestalte in de verte.
Storyline
Nathan, a teen, along with his friend, Karen finds a website that has photos of children who are missing or believed to have been abducted. They decide to age one of the photos and discover that is of Nathan as a child. He contacts the person who placed the photo to find out what's going on. The person on the other end only wants to know info about Nathan so Nathan hangs up. The person then contacts someone in Europe and shows him a photo of the one who called. He then heads for the U.S. Nathan then wonders is it true, was he abducted. He tells his "mom" who then tells him she and his "father" will tell him. But before they can, two men claiming to be cops show up wanting to talk to Nathan, and when he isn't found they pull guns and demand Nathan be given to them. His parents fight them but are killed. Nathan runs but remembers that he asked Karen to come over...
