Dal romanzo The Executioners (1958) di John D. MacDonald. Il suo fascino perverso nasce dal fatto che, nonostante tutto, si è portati a provare simpatia per il criminale più che per la vittima, moralmente spregevole quanto lui, almeno fin quando verso il finale la violenza, prima latente, esplode con isterica e magniloquente frenesia. Sapiente costruzione drammatica nell'alternarsi di tempi forti e deboli, ottima squadra di attori, notevoli contributi di F. Francis (fotografia), E. Bernstein (che ha arrangiato la partitura originale di B. Herrmann), Saul e Elaine Bass (titoli di testa). Brevi apparizioni di Robert Mitchum, Gregory Peck, Martin Balsam, interpreti del film precedente.
Sam Bowden is a small-town corporate attorney/"Leave It to Beaver"-esque family-man. Max Cady is a tattooed, cigar-smoking, bible-quoting, psychotic rapist. What do they have in common?
