CATIA (Computer Aided Three-Dimensional Interactive Application) ist ein professionelles CAD-Programm der französischen Firma Dassault Systmes, das ursprünglich für den Flugzeugbau entwickelt wurde und sich auch im Fahrzeugbau etabliert hat. Neben Pro/ENGINEER und Unigraphics hat es sich als professionelle Standard-CAD-Software etabliert.
Funktionalität
Die aktuelle Version CATIA V5 verfügt über strukturierte Workbenches für die verschiedensten technischen Anforderungen. Mit CATIA ist es möglich, Produktdaten zu erstellen, dreidimensionale Modelle zu entwickeln, zu bearbeiten (CNC), zu analysieren (FEM) sowie dazugehörige zweidimensionale Zeichnungen abzuleiten.
Das kommerzielle Programm besteht aus sehr vielen Modulen, die neben der eigentlichen Konstruktion auch viele andere Möglichkeiten wie DMU-Untersuchungen, Kinematik, FEM-Berechnungen und NC-Programmierung bieten.
Die CATIA Version 5 bietet gegenüber der UNIX basierenden V4 eine komplett überarbeitete Oberfläche, die von der Menüführung Windows-basierend ist. CATIA V5 wurde auch vom Kern her auf Windows-Plattform komplett neu gestaltet. Die Software liegt in einer 32-Bit- und einer echten 64-Bit Version vor.
