A High-quality Headquarters (HQ²) Rip by VobTickler
This MPEG file retains its original, untouched DVD-quality video and audio with no recompression whatsoever. The only processing performed was a simple cell for cell video copy. The English audio stream is also copied without any processing, using the highest quality stream found on the original DVD. All other video, audio and subtitle information was ignored and is not included.
The purpose for distributing in this format is threefold:
(1) For owners of DVDs who do not know the first thing about creating a backup, the work is done for you. If you own the original DVD, just download and save this file and, voila--your backup of the DVD you own is on your hard drive. (This MPEG video is not intended for those who do not own the original DVD. If you do not own the original DVD, do not download this file. Just like the racks of books on sale outside of a book store, you have to pay for the item before walking off with it.)
(2) It creates a reference point for owners of the DVD to convert their backup copy of a given DVD to another format so they know they are starting with the highest possible quality--virginal and untouched MPEG video and English audio.
(3) With the proliferation of large hard drives, many people prefer to simply store a DVD they own in its highest quality state on their hard drive without any extraneous menus, subtitles or non-English audio streams. HQ² MPEG videos generally hover between 3 and 7 gigabytes--small in comparison to today's storage possibilities. Again, these releases are already ripped at their highest possible quality (with no re-compression).
