Intrigen i korthet:
Stora mängder sydafrikanska diamanter har försvunnit utan att dyka upp på marknaden, och Bond får uppdraget att ta reda på vem som lagrar diamanterna och varför. Det visar sig att det är Blofeld och SPECTRE som låtit konstruera en stor lasergenerator, som denne använder för att få kärnvapen att självdetonera. Syftet är utpressning mot supermakterna. Stora delar av filmen utspelas i Las Vegas, där Bond bl a demolerar ett stort antal polisbilar i en berömd biljakt. Slutstriden äger rum på en oljerigg utanför Kaliforniens kust.
