La collana “Bootleg Series” di Bob Dylan continua a regalarci gioielli fin’ora tenuti nascosti ai fans, concerti storici del “menestrello” reperibili solo come bootleg. Dopo il doppio live alla Royal Albert Hall è ora il turno di Rolling Thunder Reveu che rappresenta bene una delle tournè più famose ed acclamate di Dylan. La “Rolling Thunder Reveu” era una sorta di carrozzone itinerante in cui a Bob Dylan si aggiungevano di volta in volta straordinari musicisti come Joan Baez, Joni Mitchel, Robbie Robertson, T Bone Burnett e molti altri. Questo straordinario carrozzone musicale si muoveva in lungo e in largo senza programmare nulla, arrivavano in una città senza pubblicità, senza essere annunciati in alcun modo e in poche ore mettevano in piedi il concerto. Questo modo molto particolare se vogliamo anche clandestino di organizzare i concerti ha giovato molto a Dylan che liberato dalla pressione dei media che fino ad allora ne caratterizzavano ogni tour ha potuto esprimere a pieno la sua creatività e offrirsi ai suoi fans in modo totale facendo concerti che superavano abbondantemente le tre ore di durata, spesso mascherato con il volto dipinto. Questo doppio cd è una splendida testimonianza di quel tour, nei 2 cd sono documentati 4 concerti, rispettivamente: Worcester 19 novembre, Cambridge 20 novembre, Boston 21 novembre, Montreal 4 dicembre, tutti nel 1975.
Nei 2 cd Bob e compagnia suonano sullo stile di Desire un country folk con la steel guitar sugli scudi, tanti cori e il violino di Scarlett Rivera in bella mostra. Ci sono quasi tutti i classici “dylaniani” con grande spazio riservato a quelli del gia citato Destre. Troviamo così “It Ain’t Me. Babe”,”A Hard Rain’s A-Gonna Fall” rivista in chiave più veloce con una grandissima steel guitar,versione bellissima e molto coinvolgente con il suo grandissimo ritornello, “Mr Tambourine Man” suonata da Bob da solo sul palco in modo sensazionale, “Romance in Durango” (molti ricorderanno la versione di De Andrè nel live con la PFM), “Blowin’ In The Wind” fatta in coppia con Joan Baez è la versione più bella che ho mai sentito sia su disco che dal vivo. Il secondo cd ci regala altre gemme come “Love Minus Zero No Limit” una ballata incredibile di quelle che forse solo Dylan sa fare, “Hurricane” era la canzone portante di Desire e in questa versione live è ancora più irresistibile grazie all’aggiunta del violino, “Sara” (altro grande hit sempre da Destre) con il suo ritornello unico è sempre una gioia per le orecchie dell’ascoltatore. Il disco continua con un altro classico della discografia di Bob “Just Like a Woman”, qui Dylan canta con trasporto in un modo molto espressivo come raramente lo si è sentito dal vivo, sempre splendidi steel e violino. Il disco si chiude con il classico dei classici “Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door” versione molto simile a quella su disco ma cantata a più voci.
In definitiva che dire di questo album se non che è un acquisto obbligato per ogni fan di Bob Dylan ma anche per coloro i quali si avvicinano per la prima volta alla sua musica. A giudizio di chi scrive questo disco è sicuramente uno dei più bei live del “menestrello del rock” impreziosito da un booklet di ben 50 pagine con tante belle foto.
