Siamo agli inzi degli anni 80, vale a dire un periodo in cui spesso l’horror si ispira a possessioni e fenomeni paranormali. Ma non in maniera così originale. Tratto da un romanzo scritto dallo stesso sceneggiatore del film, Frank De Felitta, ed ispirato ad una vicenda reale, Entity è la storia di una donna, Carla Moran, con tre figli e senza marito, che comincia a subire degli abusi sessuali da parte di un’entità sconosciuta. La donna si rivolge al Dottor Sneiderman che però, non credendo alla storia della violenza carnale, cerca di ricondurre il tutto ad una sorta di “malattia mentale”, indagando sull’infanzia di Carla e sui motivi che possano aver generato una simile e incontrollata violenza. Tutti i tentativi del dottore risultano ovviamente invani e Carla è costretta a convivere con la Bestia finchè non incontra gli assistenti di un docente di parapsicologia che tenteranno un esperimento per liberarla da questo enorme peso. Una pellicola ben realizzata, un film che lascia il segno, che riesce a trasmettere una forte sensazione di impotenza allo spettatore, che sa scioccare pur senza mostrare sangue né interiora. C’è invece molto pathos, c’è molta tensione. Infine gli effetti speciali pervengono a creare un’ atmosfera di ansia che tiene lo spettatore letteralmente inchiodato alla poltrona.
