Los polacos de CDProjekt no tienen una gran experiencia con el desarrollo de juegos, pero sí la tienen con el rol y con el rol de ordenador concretamente. Durante años, en su papel de traductores y distribuidores de los Baldur´s Gate en Polonia estuvieron siguiendo de cerca cómo Bioware hacía su magia y realizaba algunos de los mejores del título del género, aprovechando como nadie las virtudes del rol de mesa para dar vida a excelentes juegos, historias y mundos. Pero no fue hasta que el estudio canadiense creó la revolución de Neverwinter Nights cuando un pequeño grupo de la distribuidora polaca empezó a creer que ellos también podían realizar esa magia.
La semilla de The Wicther está precisamente en el Aurora Engine, el motor que utiliza Neverwinter Nights para dar vida a los cientos de historias que los aficicionados han creado a lo largo de los años. Pero si bien eso son los orígenes, estamos hablando de un proyecto que ha llevado un largo tiempo de desarrollo y ha tenido diferentes evoluciones. Una obra que, desde su espectacular introducción -digna de verse, es fantástica- demuestra su gran calidad y el gran cuidado que se ha puesto en recrear todos los detalles del mundo de Geralt de Rivia.
No hay que olvidar en ningún momento que The Witcher está basado en una de las obras más notables de la literatura de fantasía polaca y es una saga que cuenta con el reconocimiento de muchos admiradores en todo el mundo -el mundo anglosajón no lo ha empezado a conocer hasta hace poco, con la traducción del primer libro de los siete en los que está formado toda la serie sobre este personaje-.
Geralt es el auténtico protagonista de este juego. El equipo de desarrollo ha hecho un gran trabajo ofreciendo los guiños de autenticidad necesarios para que los aficionados reconozcan al protagonista de los libros en el excelente y detallado modelo que pueden ver en pantala, pero sin dejar fuera a aquellos que no conocen las andanzas o la personalidad del albino cazador de monstruos.
