"Scientific fact?" That's pretty funny. MKV is merely a container and has very little to do with the actual compression of HD video. The codec used, H.264, is what is actually gives the great quality, and can be found in MP4, DivX, WMV, as well as others. MKV video does indeed suck because it is an open source project. Every major company out there hates open source, so the only device that will play an MKV video is a computer, and even then you need to use the right player. The only people who like MKV are those who only watch movies and TV shows on their computer to begin with. I personally would rather stream them to my 360 for viewing on my TV.

Networked Media Tank players support MKV containers. Most of the newer gen HD stand-alone media players support MKV. Gotta keep up with the times...

Or you could just buy a hdmi > dvi cable and plug your pc directly into the tv rather than relying on a piece of equipment that, apparently, isn't up to the job in hand.

Wupideedoo you have truly no idea what you're talking about. I've been encoding video and editing for over 15 years. I'm not running a classroom here, so I'm not going to sit here and waste my time teaching you why you're FOS, but your idea about how containers and codecs work together is bullshit and based on nothing but a surface-understanding of a technology you've obviously not used in any advanced way what-so-ever. If you don't like MKV and want to use your CONSOLE to watch media then go ahead, but don't try and sit here and tell me I don't know video technology. I've more experience encoding video than probably 90% of anyone in these ripping groups, but instead of ripping movies, I make an obscenely good living from my editing skills. If I named the top 3 companies that pay me for my consultations you'd probably feel like the dumbest asshole this side of the country.
