The reason the event happens during the load after you exit the sewer is because the new map has a lot more detail and graphics intensive rendering. It sounds like it's just failing to load and causing a system crash instead because your system can't handle it. My advice would be to upgrade to a newer system, but take that with a grain of salt because I am only suggesting this based on what little you wrote.
