From Wiki:
The Bear and the Dragon is a political thriller novel by Tom Clancy featuring Jack Ryan. It was published in 2000.

In the book Jack Ryan is President of the United States. After Russia discovers oil fields the size of the Persian Gulf's in Siberia and gold deposits just as big, it looks as if the struggling Russian economy is on the road to recovery. But China decides to speed up its plan to invade Siberia, which had originally been delayed after the defeat of Japan in the book Debt of Honor.

- - - - -

Power is delightful, and absolute power should be absolutely delightful–but not when you’re the most powerful man on earth and the place is ticking like a time bomb. Jack Ryan, CIA warrior turned U.S. president, is the man in the hot seat, and in this vast thriller he’s up to his nostrils in crazed Asian warlords, Russian thugs, nukes that won’t stay put, and authentic, up-to-the-nanosecond technology as complex as the characters’ motives are simple. Quick, do you know how to reprogram the software in an Aegis missile seekerhead? Well, if you’re Jack Ryan, you’d better find someone who does, or an incoming ballistic may rain fallout on your parade. Bad for reelection prospects. “You know, I don’t really like this job very much,” Ryan complains to his aide Arnie van Damm, who replies, “Ain’t supposed to be fun, Jack.”
But you bet The Bear and the Dragon is fun–over 1,000 swift pages’ worth. In the opening scene, a hand-launched RPG rocket nearly blows up Russia’s intelligence chief in his armored Mercedes, and Ryan’s clever spooks report that the guy who got the rocket in his face instead was the hoodlum “Rasputin” Avseyenko, who used to run the KGB’s “Sparrow School” of female prostitute spies. Soon after, two apparent assassins are found handcuffed together afloat in St. Petersburg’s Neva River, their bloated faces resembling Pokémon toys.

The stakes go higher as the mystery deepens: oil and gold are discovered in huge quantities in Siberia, and the evil Chinese Minister Without Portfolio Zhang Han San gazes northward with lust. The laid-off elite of the Soviet Army figure in the brewing troubles, as do the new generation of Tiananmen Square dissidents, Zhang’s wily, Danielle Steel-addicted executive secretary Lian Ming, and Chester Nomuri, a hip, Internet-porn-addicted CIA agent posing in China as a Japanese computer salesman. He e-mails his CIA boss, Mary Pat “the Cowgirl” Foley, that he intends to seduce Ming with Dream Angels perfume and scarlet Victoria’s Secret lingerie ordered from the catalog–strictly for God and country, of course. Soon Ming is calling him “Master Sausage” instead of “Comrade,” but can anybody master Ming?

The plot is over the top, with devastating subplots erupting all over the globe and lurid characters scaring the wits out of each other every few pages, but Clancy finds time to insert hard-boiled little lessons on the vileness of Communism, the infuriating intrusions of the press on presidential power, the sexual perversions of Mao, the poor quality of Russian pistol silencers (”garbage, cans loaded with steel wool that self-destructed after less than ten shots”), the folly of cutting a man’s throat with a knife (”they flop around and make noise when you do that”), and similar topics. Naturally, the book bristles like a battlefield with intriguingly intricate military hardwardware...)</nfo>

William J. Caunitz was a New York City Police Department officer who used his own experiences to write best-selling thrillers.

 From back cover:
New York Times best-selling thriller author William J. Caunitz creates this bruising story of a city caught in the grips of widespread corruption. When a police detective delves into a troubled New York City precinct, a trail of blood and money leads him through drug-strangled streets and his own embattled chain of command. After months of silence, First Deputy Commissioner Suzanne Albrecht orders Lieutenant Matt Stuart, her one-time lover, to her office. She suspects a scandal is brewing on her watch that could destroy all her ambitions of becoming the city’s first female commissioner. Matt is her only hope of nosing out the problem without blowing the lid off. As he gets closer to the truth, Matt finds himself caught between organized crime gangs and a woman who will stop at nothing to protect herself. Former NYPD detective William J. Caunitz skillfully portrays authentic tragedies and traditions of the police force. The gritty prose and dialog crackle with veteran narrator Frank Muller’s dramatic performance.

 <nfo>Charles Chilton - Journey Into Space - Series 01 to 06 - Radio Sci-fi Drama - BBC7 & R4 via DVB-T
53 x 30 & 2 x 60 & 1 x 90 Minute Episodes + Extras - 128Kbps - Mp3 - Slimoo

Journey Into Space was a 1950's to 2009 BBC Radio science fiction programme, written by BBC producer Charles Chilton.

In the UK it was the last radio programme to attract a bigger evening audience than television.

Originally, four series were produced (the fourth being a remake of the first), which went on to be translated into 17 languages
(including Hindustani, Turkish and Dutch) and broadcast worldwide (including the United States, New Zealand, Australia and the Netherlands).

Chilton went on to write three best-selling novels and several comic strip stories, based upon the radio series.

The original magnetic recordings of the show were erased shortly after broadcast, and for several decades, it was believed that no recordings of the show still survived. However, in 1986, a set of mis-filed transcription discs were discovered, containing complete copies of the three original series. This discovery enabled the BBC to begin re-broadcasting the show in the late 1980s,

 <nfo>Yes, It's The Ashes - S01 - E01 - Audio Comedy - BBC Radio 5 via iPlayerDownloader
1 x 55 Minute Episodes - 64Kbps - Mp3 - Slimoo

Because this is about the currant weeks play, it will posted weekly

Yes, It's the Ashes is a new show which will be aiming to provide a comic angle on the summer of cricket as it unfolds.

The show will be hosted by Andy Zaltzman, a self-confessed 'cricket nut' (diagnosed as being unhealthily obsessed by cricket shortly after birth). He will be assisted and goaded in finding comedic insight and general absurdity in the game by a team of equally fanatical cricket guests.

Zaltzman commented: "I can't think of a better time to be doing a series about the 2009 Ashes than in July and August 2009. Nor a better place to be doing it than 5 Live. The show will be packed with jokes and cover every conceivable angle of England's attempt to regain the urn which they so unluckily lost 5-0 in 2006-07. I guarantee there will never have been a 2009 Ashes show like it."

Yes It's The Ashes brings some of the liveliest comic voices in the business together to dissect (amusingly obviously) the key issues of the summer: how good is Freddie's alarm clock? Will number 10 need to invest in a portaloo? And will Billy Bowden's interestingly shaped finger wag for England?

 <nfo>Mark Thomas - The Manifesto - Series 01 - Audio Comedy - BBC7 via DVB-T
2 x 30 Minute Episodes - 128Kbps - Mp3 - Slimoo

It can not have escaped your notice that we as a nation are currently drifting up a certain well-known creek, economically, politically, socially... er... totally. So where are the great ideas, theories and visions to help us in our hour of need?

Comedian-activist, Mark Thomas is trying to create a People's Manifesto. In this new Radio 4 show, the audience gets to come up with their own policies, with Mark including some of them in the final manifesto we will go on to campaign for.

Mark is looking for ideas that will improve our lives, be they silly, serious, economic, plagiarised, original, bold, simple, complex, obvious or morbid.

Many ideas are considered on the night, some are dismissed out of hand, some discussed with the kind of experts who know about these kinds of things, and some Mark will actually try to put into practice.

Comedy.org.uk Review: This programme made an ok start, but one can't help but compare it to the currently superior Genius - which is remarkably similar in that the live audience get to pitch ideas to the presenter. Genius has the slight edge at the moment, because its ideas are slightly wackier and more amusing.

Mark Thomas is better when he is campaigning for important things he really believes in... so hopefully he will return to doing that for his next show.
